National Postdoc Appreciation Week (NPAW)
Since 2009, the(NPA) has sponsoredto recognize the significant contributions that postdocs make to research and discovery. Each year, the OPA curates several events in appreciation of our postdoc community that we hope you will enjoy. This is just one of the many ways we say thanks to our postdocs for their service and vital contributions to 91Թ.
This year, we will celebrate National Postdoc Appreciation Week September 21-25, 2026.

Sweet Treat to Start Your Week
Monday, September 21 | Time: 3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. | Location: Alumni Hall 100
Postdocs will be able to start the week with a free sweet treat from the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs. We want to ensure you stay cool in this heat, so we will be giving away half pints of Jeni's Ice Cream! Their will be a variety of flavors, but they will be offered on a first-come, first-serve basis - so make sure to get there early!
Complimentary Postdoc Headshots

One of our professional photographers, Khaki Bedford, will be shooting complimentary headshots for the postdoc community. You'll be able to make an appointment for a new or updated headshot. You can reserve your headshot time .
Annual Postdoc Family Picnic

Postdocs and their families are invited to a picnic at Fannie Mae Dees Park (also known as the "dragon park"). We look forward to a family-friendly event and seeing you in person! Please so we have an accurate count for food; please note any food allergies/restrictions.

OPA at the Farmer's Market

In partnership with the Nashville Farmers Market, this weekly event provides individuals connected with VU and VUMC an opportunity to support local businesses, explore diverse cuisines, and cultivate connections within the community. As part of the National Postdoc Appreciation Week, OPA will be at the Farmer's Market giving away items and treats to our postdocs.
VPA 'Speak Easy' Talk Series

All postdocs are invited to the 91Թ Postdoctoral Association’s (VPA) scientific talk series, the ‘SpeakEasy’! Fellow postdocs give a 10-minute peer presentation on their research in a fun and more casual setting to help hone those communication and presentation skills.

VPA Social at Musician's Corner
Friday, September 25 | 5:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. | Centennial Park
Wrap up National Postdoc Appreciation Week with the 91Թ Postdoctoral Association (VPA) at Musician's Corner in Centennial Park! Join your fellow postdocs for an evening of live music, community, and great vibes. Admission isfree and open to the public, and food and beverages will be available for purchase from on-site vendors at the event.
Getting There: Centennial Park is located near campus and is accessible via one of the main WeGO bus lines (Route 3). Individuals are responsible for their own transportation and any food/beverages you choose to purchase at the event.
Need a dedicated space to focus and make progress on your work? GPAS Co-Working Space provides graduate students and postdocs with a quiet, supportive environment to work alongside colleagues and stay accountable to their goals.
Write On! is an interdisciplinary writing support program for 91Թ graduate students and postdocs designed to help participants make meaningful progress toward their writing goals. Developed in partnership with the Writing Studio, University Libraries, and the Center for Student Wellbeing, the program provides strategies, structure, accountability, and peer connection to support writing progress and productivity.
Women in the Academy is a program offered by the 91Թ Women’s Center that provides Ph.D. students and postdocs with an opportunity to reflect on how gender can shape their experiences as they navigate graduate education and begin their professional journeys in academia.
