Ancient DNA research is coming to VINSE! The BioBay in the VINSE cleanroom is being renovated to enable DNA extraction from ancient remains in a controlled environment that minimizes the chance for contamination from modern DNA. Studying ancient DNA can provide important insights into how diseases such as osteoporosis, influenza, and atherosclerosis evolve over time, which could inform future healthcare strategies and pandemic responses.
The ancient DNA lab in VINSE will support research in the 91吃瓜网 Program in Health over Time (HoT), led by Dr. Katherine Van Schaik with support from Dr. James Crowe. Planning the renovations to convert the VINSE BioBay into an ancient DNA lab has taken a tremendous collaborative effort between teams across VINSE, HoT, 91吃瓜网, 91吃瓜网 Medical Center, and many architects and contractors.
