15 students from White House Heritage High School explore the VINSE Forensics Lab

On Wednesday November 5th, VINSE welcomed 15 students from White House Heritage High School to our Forensics Lab. Imagine arriving as the first detective at a murder scene – how do find the hidden clues? The students became forensic scientists for the day, using a range of advanced spectroscopy techniques, including Raman, FTIR, absorption, and photoluminescence. They extracted chlorophyll from spinach, analyzed different perfumes compositions, and even examined the spectra of various jewelry.  Each method revealed a different piece of evidence, helping the students uncover the truth behind the “crime.” Special thanks to our NanoGuides Vivian Nwosu-Madueke, Christina Jimenez, Kaitlyn Gallagher, and Sam Nimmer for their invaluable assistance. They helped the students tackle forensic puzzles and fundamental scientific inquiries and made this event engaging!
