Teach Your Research / Research Your Teaching

Teach Your Research / Research Your Teaching is a two-part companion workshop series that treats research expertise as a teaching asset. The series rests on a simple premise: research and teaching both involve moving knowledge between experts and novices, and they both improve with good questions and careful attention to evidence.

Part 1: Teach Your Research focuses on communication. Faculty apply principles of research communication (tailoring to an audience, distilling the essence of an idea, and leading with the why) to bring complex concepts and their own scholarship into the classroom. These practices are grounded in research on learning, and the same skills strengthen grant and fellowship proposals, public talks, and writing for non-specialist readers.

Part 2: Research Your Teaching introduces discipline-based inquiry into teaching and learning as it is practiced in higher education. The session centers instructor-driven inquiry within the disciplines, featuring examples from a range of fields where instructors’ questions about their own courses led to influential findings. Participants will reflect on what an inquiry in their own class might look like and learn how T@V can support them, whether their goal is formative evaluation or published research.
