Celia joined the CoEvoD program as a third-year trainee supported by the NIH / NIGMS T32 Training Grant in 2026.
Celia has experience in both experimental and computational research. The major goal of her project is to use machine learning models to predict the substrate specificity of non-ribosomal peptide synthetase (NRPS) and use statistical coupling analysis to study coevolving residues across NRPS modules for future applications of module swapping and engineering. With nearly 30 drugs currently on the market with NRP core structures, these enzymes are a great landscape to study and find peptides to use as treatments for diseases like cancer and bacterial infections.
